Traveling, December 2015 – April 2016

Investec Bank Plc

December 2014 – December 2015                  BI Architect/Development manager

I was hired to take the team through the transformation process and introduce best practises and processes.  When I joined the team consisted of 6 developers, 3 business analysts and 2 support engineers but due to corporate culture each was working in silo.  While I was there, I’ve introduced agile process, migrated development to VS2013, Git/Stash and Jira, build a team spirit, improved on code sharing and cross skilling.  I’ve prepared the environments to be upgraded to SQL 2014 from 2008R2 version.  As part of data lake initiative, I’ve designed the Corporate Data Warehouse model and started migrating silo reporting solutions to this schema.

Major projects worked on:

·         Migration of Capital Calculation engine to Moody’s

·         Data warehouse to report on revenue for traders based of Fidessa and RIMS systems

·         Capital and Provisioning ODS for Leasing business that interfaced with Equifax, LeaseSoft, risk calculation engine(similar to matlab) over ESB and captured application and behaviour parameters.  Data warehouse design for Leasing business as well.

·         Enterprise data warehouse model within data lake for consolidated balancesheet reporting and detailed lines of business reporting, started with migration of LeaseSoft data warehouse

·         IFRS9 (that included application and behaviour scoring using in-house developed model execution engine, capturing and transforming data from every line of business that has exposure, etc.)

·         Migration of Trading Data Warehouse to new architecture (Calypso, Chi as back end)

·         FSCS reporting

·         Reporting on external brokerage business that served SED desks (BoNY and Opal).

·         Fatca reporting

·         Client data MDM solution across all business lines (PB and CIB, SA and UK)

·         Credit Ratings data service providing S&P, Fitch and Moody’s ratings to all lines of business.

We transact in excess of 2 million trades every month for individuals in over 50 countries worldwide.

March 2013 – December 2014                        BI Architect/senior developer

I took over the responsibility of leading the technical implementation of the BI platform.  I am responsible for making sure the teams implementations fit into the design of the platform, the platform adapts and evolves to the new requirements and ever changing business requirements.  The team consists of 5 developers, 2 QAs. The development process is based on Agile development methodology, runs in 2 weeks sprints, peer reviews and continuous deployment.  The reporting platform sources data from number of different trading platforms based in the UK and US, third party systems and manually managed MDM files, loads using ETL framework (supports type 0,1,2 slowly changing dimensions and additive/semi-additive facts) built on top of SSIS framework.  The data is presented to the end users via standard Star schema data-marts, SSRS reports and SSAS cube with number of out of the box and complex MDX members to allow “from/to” period analysis, current period, year-to-date, KPIs, etc.

Achievements

Reverse engineered, brought in client activity on trading platforms data.

Consolidated client acquisition data scattered across number of front end platforms, core trading platforms, marketing management systems, mapped, cleansed and brought into central repository, that subsequently feeds into different KPIs, giving information on P&L and trades numbers by platforms, P&L generated by new clients acquired through different campaigns, etc.

Designed data model to reflect client, sales person, introducing broker, broker participants and legal parties’ relation.

Brought in measures to cover GL, instructions, rebates, trades, client activity including trading platforms

Regulatory reporting - FATCA, PRR and CRR, trades reporting as per CRD IV/EMIR.

Performance optimisation of SSAS- consolidated mini dimensions into larger junk dimensions, partitioned cube, implemented cache warming, aggregations and optimised members for fast dimensional browsing, implemented time intelligence (YTD, MTD, etc.).

Designed real-time feeds into data-warehouse. Designed framework for external reporting of the Datawarehouse, including security model, with SSRS and SSAS as end tools.  Designed data model to support report translations

Designed reference data framework (MDM)..

Implemented automated deployment into any environment (dev,qa,ppe, live) including db changes, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS (CI) and driving test automation.

Continuously coach business users on how to use the BI platform including cube and data warehouse, how to build pivot tables and queries to minimise delays and help them to come up with new ideas and requirements.

Implemented Reporting POC that was basis for the reporting module of the new risk modelling application (www.towerswatson.com/en-GB/Press/2014/02/towers-watson-announces-next-generation-modelling-software-for-life-insurers).  SQL, Excel PowerPivot, OData feed publisher, generators of VaR, Percentiles, Black-Scholes, etc.

POC of a full Enterprise Data Warehouse solution for the enterprise version of the risk modelling application.  Consists of SSAS Tabular and MultiDimensional, SSRS, PowerView, autogenerated SSIS packages, and import management framework, SharePoint 2013 as platform for reporting, OData feeds, integrations with third-party dashboards, additional data imports, exports, etc. with data-warehouse under the bonnet.  Solution would allow integration with any other part of the business, on-site and cloud solutions, third parties, deployable to any of the may TW clients.  Solution supported auditing requirements of data as well as code for the investment solutions.  For example, it would allow to reproduce any results as per Solvency II.

Modelled the data and then designed and developed the physical implementation for the POC for the usage based insurance solution.  High transaction VLDB solution, high frequency, small record sets would be retrieved to evaluate scoring and report back to consumers.  Modelled the data, estimated the data sizes and possible speed of data retrieval.

Designed and developed with a team of actuaries a Policy Management tool for one of the new insurers based in Hong Kong, China.
